Saint Paul Organizational Committee (SPOC) Meeting  Date: 9/12/05

Organization and Rep

NOTES:

SPOC President

James Massey

jfm00523@aol.com

Some years ago, SPOC was formed to help us communicate better between organizations. In an effort to improve communication across our entire parish, we felt that sharing our notes from our monthly meetings would also show everyone in our parish that we have many wonderful events and programs going on here in St. Paul’s community. If you have comments or suggestions you’d like to share about the following notes, please email me.

Father David

For those of you wondering, the new building has water and electricity working, and plans are underway for the first floor. (We will not use the second and third floors at first to keep utility costs low.) Watch for more information coming soon from the Future is Now Capital Campaign Committee.

To properly honor Mary during her month of honor, the Liturgy Commission is sponsoring a Living Rosary 7 PM on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 in St. Paul's Church. Volunteers will be living beads, wearing native dress and first saying their part of the rosary in their native tongue and the second part in English. The decade of the rosary that will be said entirely in English will be represented by students from the RE Program and our school. Rosaries, made by our rosary makers, will be given to everyone. Please plan to attend!

To celebrate our 50th anniversary as a parish, mark your calendars for our 50th Anniversary Banquet on April 22, 2006! Chairman is Bob Jenkins; Lou Lenzer is finding people to help make this an event to remember, if at all possible, in our new building! Watch for more information in early 2006.

Hospital & Home Ministry

(Deacon Carl)

deaconcarlthelin@comcast.net

August Report: The Pastoral Care Givers went to Medical City Hospital on eleven days during the month of August. There were 397 patients visited. One of the volunteers had to suspend coming to the hospital because she is now teaching full time at St. Paul's School. On a much brighter note, there are three new volunteers who are in training for hospital visitation.

Music  Ministry

(Bernie Gotway)

bernie@gotway.com

All three choirs continue to welcome new members.  Singers do not have to be accomplished or read music. All that is needed is a desire to participate and praise God in song. The Youth and Family Choir and Orchestra needs wind and string instruments along with percussion. We have lost a large number of graduating seniors, and so, we are looking for new members.

The Third Annual Christmas Sing-Along will be held on Sunday evening, December 18. Our Knights council will again take donations for the Seminary Chapel Restoration. Guest singers and musicians welcome!  Contact Bernie Gotway at 972-918-9333 or Bernie@Gotway.com.

St. Paul Religious Ed.

(Jerri Brandenburg)

jerri@saintpaulchurch.org

RE has 600 students, 2 sessions on Sunday (9:00 am-10:15 am and 10:30 am-11:45 am). No Wednesday sessions. In September we also celebrated: 107 confirmations, a Sept 24 8th grade retreat, a Sept. 25 high school retreat and 93 1st communion participants

Youth Ministry

(Mark Knox)

saintpaulyouth@hotmail.com

Welcome to our new Youth Minister! We’re starting up new events 6th-12th graders. I really need a team of reliable adults to help, and it’s tough finding them. Ideally, we need 3 or 4 volunteers in charge of the High school youth... maybe 5 or 6  in charge of the Jr. High youth, and a few to manage special activities. This would be around 10-12 adults that stand beside me and help me organize, and plan, and develop these kids more then just I alone can. Please contact Mark if you can chaperone the socials and music ministry with junior high and high school get-togethers.

Chrissie Keffler and volunteers are preparing a Time, Talent and Treasure bulletin insert each month, and Communications works in these SPOC notes, so that the parish can know just how much we have happening at our various organizations. Also, the next issue of the newsletter is progressing, slow but sure. Seeking additional help in writing articles and securing photos.

Girl Scouts

Suzanne Delcambre

Suzanne_N_Delcambre@raytheon.com or

  • We will add a kindergarten troop and are working on a second grade troop.  We have existing troops at grades one, three, four and seven.

  • Many of the girls earned the Catholic Religious Award and will receive it at a ceremony Sept. 18 at St. Michael's in Garland.

  • From the third grade troop: Planning their first campout on October 7, 8, and 9 at Camp Bette Perot. Interested in any service projects available.

  • Little people can do big things and the first grade troop is also looking to help with service projects throughout the year. We can help make posters for various events sponsored by the parish, or other ideas.

Greeters

Marcia Weidenfeller

Weiden10@aol.com

Now that summer is over, I am recruiting for more Greeters as substitutes or to participate once a month. We are pleased to have three new greeters (including Carey and his dog!) We hope our parishioners realize how much we have to be thankful for and respond to the call for Stewardship.

Please support President Bush’s selection of Judge Roberts for Supreme Court Chief, which makes this the only time the U.S. Supreme Court has enjoyed having as many as four Catholics.

Knights of Columbus

Any money donated at our fish fry Friday, Sept. 23 will be dedicated to hurricane relief! (The Knights will be accepting donations, and will turn over the net proceeds to the parish earmarked for hurricane relief efforts.) The Knights hope this can be a fun and significant event for the whole parish. We are hoping for some groups to contribute desserts. The Webelos Scouts of our Pack 728 will provide clean up service. By the way, Council 12021 and St. Paul parishioners were recently recognized for our donation of more than $50,000 (the 7th largest donation) towards the Holy Trinity Seminary chapel restoration.
