50th Anniversary Events Planning Update
April 22
April 23
June 23
June 24 with events open to the public
-
5k run. Taking donations of gift cards
from $20 and up to give as prizes.
-
St. Peter/St. Paul Festival: We’re
considering Battle of the Bands, or DJ or Karaoke. Looking for a couple
big prizes, maybe a big TV, good “second” car, for raffle. Knights are
handling the bingo game. Anyone know someone who can make donations for
these raffle or bingo prizes? We need organizations and anyone else who
would like to participate to provide a $25 gift card from stores or
restaurants for bingo prizes. (By the way, if organizations want a tent
for their booth, they need to pay the approx. $150 cost.) There will be
food. We are looking for corporate sponsors. We are considering allowing
vendors who will sell nice goods. We hope the scouts and other service
organizations will participate; maybe provide first aid, demonstrations,
or cleaning help.

Hospital & Home Ministry
(Deacon
Carl)
|
We went to the hospital and did patient
visitations 14 days during the month of January 2006. There were 645
patients visited by an average of 6 visitors per visiting day. The 645
patients reflect the highest number of patients visited in a single month
over the past five years. For a number of days during the month, the
hospital was having to refer patients to other facilities due to the lack of
available beds. Respiratory distress was the major cause for the overload
conditions.
During the recent Community Sunday 8 people
indicated an interest in joining our ministry. Four were bi-lingual which
are really in need. The other four, while not bi-lingual would be welcome
additions to help beef up limited number of volunteers. The interested
persons will be contacted in the near future to discern the level of their
interest. |

Catholic Daughters
Through the generosity of the CDA members,
donations have been made to the Missionary of Charity Sisters, Catholic
Charities, Network, St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mark’s, St. Joseph’s,
All Saints and St. Paul’s, the youth groups of all four churches, White
rose, the Nursing Home Ministry, the Seminarians, as well as to the CDA
National Projects. We had a first time bake sale at All Saints on Sunday,
Feb. 5th raising more than $800! The 2007 State Convention will
be held in Dallas, and plans are already well under way.
JCDA
JCDA members participated in Community
Sunday and had 14 girls of various ages interested in becoming new members.
They handed out flower pens to all prospective members. Recently the JCDA
met at a private home and worked on scrap books. Creativity was in full
bloom! In Feb. they will have a Father/Daughter bowling event with
invitations going out not only to current members, but any future JCDA
member. 14 girls came to the communion breakfast and had a wonderful time!
JCDA has participated in Breakfast with
Santa, the Bazaar and the Fall Carnival at St. Josephs. |

During the month of January our Girl Scouts
were busy taking cookie orders. The cookies will be delivered around
Valentine's Day (14th). There will be cookie booth sales after the Masses
in February for those who did not get to order cookies. Thanks to all for
supporting the Girl Scouts!
The 4th Grade Troop took a self-defense
class and learned about how to get away from someone who is trying to abduct
them and other safety tips.
The Daisy Troop had fun and did a great job
in a Fashion Show at Collin Creek Mall. They also completed a service
project for children living at the Pleasant Hills Children's Home (PHCH).
The girls made valentine goody baskets for 15 girls who live at PHCH. This
ranch in East Texas takes abandoned children from birth to 17 years old. |

The Diocese –
The Dallas Diocese received
$500,000 from the First Methodist to fund the jobs of case-workers needed to
help those evacuees who are still trying to get settled in the area. We are
also covering Shreveport, La. Area with these funds, to continue help people
who are recovering.
In our Parish:
Still open in Plano – 25-45
families helped each day, sometime by evacuees who have gotten jobs there
(funded by FEMA). Keeping it open until end of Feb. We’ll run out of
funding and items by that time.
In January, we financially
helped 7 families (24 people) with $2,038.35 in assistance. We also assisted
three other families that were provided various other goods. We referred 22
families to other sources, including Network of Ministries. In January the
parish provided about 400 pounds of non perishable foods and paper products
to Network.
As of January 31, the
Katrina/Rita efforts of the parish totaled more than $37,000 in financial
funds and goods. This was made up of about $12,500 in direct financial
assistance (including through Catholic Charities), $11,600 in purchased
goods for distribution, and an estimated $13,000 in donated goods including
furniture and household items. Note: As of January 31 the Plano warehouse
that we support had helped set up homes for 3,108 families (over 10,000
people.) Most of our parish goods were distributed through that warehouse. |
